MakersPlace at NFT Paris

  • NFT Paris, MakersPlace Booth, Art Corner
  • Location: Grand Palais Éphémère
  • Date: Friday/Saturday, February 24–25
  • Time: 9:00 am-7:30 pm

MakersPlace is curating an exhibition space at NFT Paris featuring the artists Javier Arrés, Léo Caillard, and a selection of photographers chosen by WhaleShark.

Javier Arrés

Javier Arrés is a world-renowned motion / GIF artist and a 2019 London Art Biennale winner. Inspired by the sweeping views from his childhood home overlooking his hometown of Motril, Spain, Arrés is known for his manically detailed illustrations of fantastical scenery from cities, architecture, and machines. He further brings these worlds to life through what he calls “Visual Toys.” Through these Visual Toys, Arrés invites the viewer into a fantastical world, inspiring the viewer to simply play with their imaginations.

Javier Arrés, for the first time ever, brings his digital toys to life for a small-batch generative collection of phygital robots spanning four releases, the first of which will happen on MakersPlace at the end of March. Each release will include an NFT digital artwork of an Arrés robot and an unlockable physical robot corresponding to that NFT. Enjoy this sneak peek in Paris, and hop on our mailing list to stay in the loop in the coming weeks!

Léo Caillard

Born in Paris, France in 1985, Léo Caillard toys with our relationship with time. Inspired by science, contemporary culture, and neo-classicism, he invites us to take a fresh look at our present and rethink our future by looking through the lens of our shared past.

“2,000 years separates us from our Greco-Roman roots. With respect to Time outside the human-scale lifetime, 2,000 years is ultimately negligible. Questions concerning the past, myths, and epics are merely metaphors for the great concerns of human existence. I strive to bring all this to the fore to let us better understand our world.” — Léo Caillard

WhaleShark curates Photography

Starting with his first purchase in 2019, WhaleShark has established himself as one of the most influential and active NFT collectors in the world. Despite boasting a portfolio of more than 400,000 purchases, he is known for being extremely selective and intentional in choosing the projects and mediums he invests in and promotes, including digital photography.

With that in mind, MakersPlace is delighted to exhibit this tightly curated exhibition of artists handpicked by WhaleShark. We see inherent value and remarkable artistry in this work and the intersection of NFTs and digital photography as a whole, and we think you will too.

Artists include Michael Yamashita, Tony Sellen, Karel Chladek, Joshua K. Jackson, Junya Watanabe, Cvatik, Anniset, Jose Ramos and Johan Lolos.

A.A. Murakami’s The Passage of Ra, presented by MakersPlace

  • NFT Paris, Art Installation, Art Corner
  • Location: Grand Palais Éphémère
  • Date: Friday/Saturday, February 24–25
  • Time: 9:00 am-7:30 pm

In Egyptian mythology, Ra traveled every evening on a solar barge through the underworld in order to rise again each morning.

Inspired by this concept, The Passage of Ra is a new NFT installation by A.A. Murakami that juxtaposes the ephemeral nature of a moment with the immutable permanence of the blockchain.

Physical fog rings and their digital twins are simultaneously fired toward a digital generative seascape.

As the physical rings hit the screens, their digital twins appear – rippling the surface of the water in the generative scene before sailing off into the infinite horizon.

Debuting at NFT Paris 2023, this installation is the first of a series of immersive NFTs that bring to life what A.A. Murakami has termed the ‘Mataverse.’ Distinct from a Metaverse, which is a virtual world, a Mataverse is a multi-sensory physical environment that also exists on the blockchain.
