Africa Here is here. The accelerator program from Nigerian digital artist Osinachi and MakersPlace officially kicks off on November 7, 2022, and coincides with the opening of West Africa’s premier international art fair, Art X Lagos.
Following an exciting submissions period during which we learned about and saw art from 100+ African creators, Osinachi made his final decisions about which six would be included in the exhibit to premier at SCOPE Art Show during Art Week Miami.
But before that, an online exhibit and sale featuring one artwork from each of 70+ participants (including the six winners) will open on MakersPlace on November 7 and run for one week.
On November 10, MakersPlace will debut an exclusive drop from Osinachi himself.
Before we get around to announcing the winners, you may be asking, “Who is Osinachi?”
Osinachi (born Prince Jacon Osinachi Igwe) is a 31-year-old digital artist based in Lagos, Nigeria. The first crypto artist out of Africa, he has been in the NFT space for about five years now, making artworks that mirror his personal experiences through a unique visual language that he has perfected over 15 years.
In addition to numerous collaborations with big players in the art world, Osinachi auctioned five unique NFTs last year in Europe. The project, which was a three-way collaboration between him, Christie’s Europe, and 1-54 Art Fair, marked the first time the auction house would present NFTs in Europe, the first exhibition of NFTs at the art fair, and made Osinachi the first African to achieve such a feat, among other milestones.
More recently, he launched the widely successful pfp/avatar project Across the Face, which marked the first time we would see two NFT platforms form a partnership to launch a singular project.
Here’s Osinachi introducing the Africa Here program to the program winners.
And on to the six winners of the Africa Here accelerator, followed by the six runners-up.
