About Aaron “Woes” Martin

Aaron Martin, known also as “Woes” was born on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu, but spent most of his childhood growing up and moving from Southern California to Nevada before finally landing back into Hawaii during his Junior year in high school. In 1998 a car accident changed everything; this life-threatening experience inspired him to leave the island once again, this time to Seattle, Washington. Inspired by the people, rain and being indoors, he started playing around with different art mediums again. He then left back to Hawaii with a new perspective.

Aaron had his first show in 2002, in galleries across the US mainland to Asia, South East Asia, South Pacific and all over Europe. He has worked with companies & collective such as Mind Style toys, Disney, Flab Slab, Kidrobot, Fitted Hawaii /New Era, Kicks Hawaii, In4mation Hawaii and Fandango.

His focal medium is acrylic paintings on wood and canvas. Using minimal colors and detailed character design, these paintings are usually comprised of stressed out emotional pandas. Aaron has also been making an impact on the designer toy community with his partner Palmetto of Silent Stage Gallery an online hub for Woes Martin products mainly in Resin Sculptures.

Dream Dwelling: Boombox Treehouse by WOODEN WAVE
Dream Dwelling: Surf & Science Research Outpost by WOODEN WAVE
About Wooden Wave

Matthew Kawika Ortiz and Roxanne Ortiz are a husband and wife art duo who collaborate under the name Wooden Wave. Frequently using treehouses as their subject matter, the art of Wooden Wave presents a whimsical take on the notion of the sustainably integrated community. The treehouse, as a symbol, exudes a nostalgic sense of possibility and represents the ultimate icon for adventure. But beyond the obvious romanticism of a dwelling built in the canopy, the inclusion of solar panels, water catchment, aquaponics, and green roof systems make each composition relevant to the environmental issues of today.

Wooden Wave has painted murals across Hawaii and the continental United States. They also specialize in illustration and design, having done logos and apparel images for a variety of clients including comedian George Lopez and boxer Floyd Mayweather. They’ve designed shoe collections for the footwear company Olukai, and continue to do creative work for the brand.

Roxy and Matt have exhibited their fine art paintings in the US and abroad, including two exhibitions with the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center. In 2019, Matt was a contestant on NBC’s craft competition show, “Making It.”
