Javier Arrés
Javier Arrés is a world-renowned motion / GIF artist and a 2019 London Art Biennale winner based in Motril, Spain. Arrés finds inspiration within the sweeping views from his childhood home overlooking his hometown and the beautiful architecture within it.
Arrés is known for his manically detailed illustrations of fantastical scenery highlighting cities, architecture and machines. He brings these worlds to life through what he calls “Visual Toys”. Through these Visual Toys, Arres invites the viewer into a fantastical world, inspiring the viewer to simply play with their imaginations. These “Visual Toys” are highly sought after and sell at record speeds and prices.

In Yes, we are the Champions!, Javier Arrés draws inspiration from the historic sports moments of his youth, bringing the world of Spanish sports — as told by iconic MARCA moments— into his cyberpunk, retro-future blockchain fantasy world.
“Marca is one of the most widely read newspapers in the Spanish world. It is part of the popular culture of Spain, you can find it in any bar and its covers have been, and are, very special in sports culture.
For me, a Spanish artist, having the opportunity to revert and honor the cover that many of us thought we would never see, that of the victory in the world cup, is something very special. It also allows me to be part of that great moment, of that historic and unique cover.
In my work there is a lot of retro futurism— I like it and I incorporate it through my artworks. For example, for one visual toy in this series, I imagine a retro Marca cover inside an iPad which exists in a parallel universe or another moment in time… A time in which our devices are so full of mechanics that less elegant design would be needed. This cyberpunk device invites you to imagine who in this parallel world of Spanish sports will be the lucky one to have this cover in their hands.”
