We are excited to reveal the newest artworks from iconic fantasy artist, angel creator and Magic: The Gathering illustrator Peter Mohrbacher, including a collaboration creation with digital artist Andreas Lilja.
Peter Mohrbacher
Peter Mohrbacher is a surrealist fantasy artist based in Florida who is best known for his work on Magic: The Gathering from 2011 to 2014, creating every card type. He also created the concepts for Return to Ravnica and Theros sets, helping to design the characters and creatures. Since then, Mohrbacher’s focus has been on his personal brand, Angelarium — wondrous interpretations of angels from various mythologies and cultures.
“I’m on a mission to help other artists pull away from a shrinking commercial market and guide them to build their own creations.”
Mohrbacher is a trail-blazer as an indie artist in the illustration world. The launch of his independent fantasy illustration project and book, Angelarium, which he has worked on full time for over four years now, has paved the way for independent illustrators across the world to pursue their own creative dreams. He has been creating digital artworks in Photoshop for over 20 years, even predating the actual introduction of paint tools within the program.
Mohrbacher’s style is vivid, fantastical and undeniably distinct— It transports us to beautiful, mythological worlds full of color and delicately depicted characters.

Notable Sales
Mohrbacher’s artworks are some of the earliest artworks to ever have been minted on MakersPlace, but it wasn’t until recently that his works were discovered by collectors. The rest is history. Last month, Mohrbacher sold over $17K+ in artworks for his genesis Zodiac series, with his editions selling for $300+. His 100 edition artwork, Azrael, Keeper of the Golden Heart, sold out within seconds and his single edition release Malkuth, Emanation of the Kingdom sold to collector Mamentum for 4.8 ETH (~$2,758 at the time).

Now that Mohrbacher has officially been bitten by the Crypto Art bug, he vows to offer something grander. Enjoy what remains of his early artworks while you still can, this OG illustrator will be taking his digital artworks to the next level in the coming months.
Binah, Emanation of Knowledge
These special creations depict the foundational structure from which the angel realm hangs— the tree of life. Mohrbacher has teamed up with celebrated digital animator Andreas Lilja on a new collection is centered around Binah, the third emanation of the kabbalistic Tree of Life. Binah is the first artwork Mohrbacher created when he took on Angelarium as a full time project, making it an especially iconic and important creation.
“The Emanation of Knowledge returns in a relatable new depiction that should be familiar to anyone who has paused to watch their thoughts pour through their head.
A flow of light that pours into the world. Like a candle whose flame may light another without diminishing its own. She seeks not only creation, but purpose. A flare of pure intent that blossoms from the heart of existence and out into the world. Her energy brings with it a desire for knowledge. She is the force that churns all the the potential from higher Emanations into a form that can be received by our consciousness.“
